Gentle Cleaning of the Historical Houses and Museum and their Delicate Possessions
Monthly housekeeping is done on a flexible timetable to accommodate various volunteer schedules. Mature volunteers are welcomed for a couple hours at a time to dust, vacuum, and wipe down objects. Individuals and groups are welcomed as part of your community service goals. Groups such as Scouts are most welcome, and need to be accompanied by at least one adult per child under 15 years old.
Historical Documents Sorting, Cleaning, and Categorizing
You'll be interrupting yourself constantly for reading of unusual and fascinating articles, court documents, obituaries, lost animal claims, tavern license applications, adultery lawsuits, and newspaper clippings. Various projects are always occurring and volunteers who enjoy following very detailed procedures and working at their own pace are welcomed on Thursdays and Saturdays.
Grounds Keeping
During the summer months many volunteers are needed to keep the lawn maintained, trim around edges with weed-wackers, remove fallen branches, help with wigwam re-thatching, weed flower beds, touch up paint, make small wood repairs, and on and on! Most work is done on the weekends, but other flexible schedules are most gratefully accommodated.

For Special Projects:
PCHS has a wonderful history of working with Boy and Girl Scouts and other groups who seek to do a one-time project to improve the grounds. For example, past Eagle Scout projects include creating a Scout museum building, a sidewalk down to the pavilion which allows for wheelchair access where there was only grass, and building and installing benches for seating.
Current project opportunities include building new sidewalks to the Historical Houses, expanding seating at the amphitheater through benches along the back row, and landscaping installation at the museum building. Of course, if you have an idea, we would love to talk about it with you.
